Where to Dispose Used Batteries in Johor Bahru

Ever since we moved to Johor Bahru 3 years back, I had been searching high and low for a place which accepts used batteries for disposal. We had quite a lot of used batteries being kept and accumulated in the storeroom as I refused to just throw them out with the rubbish.

I was hoping with the opening of IKEA Tebrau last year, I can then dispose the used batteries there, as the ones in Mutiara Damansara has dedicated disposal bins for batteries. Alas, the IKEA here does not have it as well.

Desparate, I asked for help in a forum. Someone directed me to the Jabatan Alam Sekitar Negeri Johor located in Danga Utama. I paid a visit to the place, with one bagful of used batteries. The building wasn't that hard to find, partly because I am quite familiar with the commercial area.

Inside, next to the customer counter, is a huge clear plastic bin, full of used batteries. They have categorised what type of batteries to put, such as phone batteries and accessories, but doesn't look like the people are bothered to segregate them anyway. The bin looks like it had been accumulated and not emptied for some time.  At least it is a proper place for us to dispose used batteries responsibly.

Address :

Wisma Alam Sekitar,
46, Jalan Pertama,
Pusat Perdagangan Danga Utama,
81300 Johor Bahru

Meanwhile, let's hope for more of such places in Johor Bahru which accepts used batteries, powerbanks, fluorescent lights and other forms of e-waste for disposal!

{Updated 11 December 2018}

IKEA Tebrau now has a dedicated section for used battery disposal, together with light bulb and fluorescent light disposal as well. Double yay!
