When Fashion meet Politics

Louis Vuitton is full of surprises! Just check out their latest print ad published in major newspapers during the weekend.

Why is that so?

The model featured in the advertisement is none other than Mikhail Gorbachev - the last president of the Soviet Union before its collapse in 1991.

According to several websites, this ad is part of a campaign to highlight LV's heritage as a luxury travel brand, focusing on luggage and travel accessories.

I thought it was meaningful to have this ad shot along the Berlin Wall instead of some streets or park. It added some sort of nolstalgia for Gorbachev himself through his expression in the ad.

Interesting trivia : This is not Gorbachev's first foray into advertising. In 1997, he appeared in a Pizza Hut commercial with his granddaughter Anastacia. News article can be found here.
