Our Wedding Vendors - The Gownmaker

Now that I've FINALLY blogged about our wedding day, it is time to go to the vendors. Today I will cover my gown maker Pretty in White.

When we decided to get married, I wasn't too sure if I wanted to take up the conventional bridal package or make my own. Co-incidentally Link was also planning her wedding, so I followed her to a few bridal studios in SS2 to check out their packages. After visiting three shops I wasn't keen to take up their packages, simply because I didn't want pre-wedding photos, and to rent the gowns without their package was expensive. I also didn't really find any gowns which I fancy. Plus the sales girls were getting on my nerves through their hard selling.

I knew about Pretty in White (PIW) through my ex-colleague Joce, and decided to give it a try. After making an appointment, I came to the shop one Saturday, and was greeted by the boss Dennis. After a quick chat, he introduced me to Elaine, who took charge of the consultation. They explained how PIW works, and the products/services they provided. I can opt to rent or make my own wedding gown. The plus side to it is that should I make my own gown ,I can sell back to them at a discounted price. The prices depend on the design, materials used, and they will do their best to accomodate my requirements and budget.

For my wedding gown, it was slightly easier to decide. There were many designs on display and Elaine let me try a few to see which one I like the most. In the end, I decided on a princess cut with lace finishing based on an existing dress (as worn by below model). The only additional request I had is to add a flower and tassles at the back.

For my evening gown, it was slightly more challenging. I didn't really had a design in mind and started searching the internet for ideas. I didn't want something that was too elaborate which can only be worn once. The first design was nice but wasn't within my budget. The second design was based on a BCBG tube gown but after trying out the actual dress in the boutique I realised it didn't quite suit me. In the end we decided on a simple V neck dress using satin and dual-coloured chiffon. I felt kinda bad for keep changing my design, but to Elaine that's part of their job and challenge to meet client's needs.

As PIW also provide customised shoes service, I had both my shoes done by them as well. My evening shoes is based on one of their existing shoe patterns, but it will be using the same coloured satin as my dress so it will match my dress. As for my wedding shoe, I had this Jimmy Choo design in mind. However, due to limitations from the shoemaker, Elaine designed another alternative for me. I was very pleased with the results when I collected my shoes.

I was very happy with the gowns designed by Elaine. That night, many friends and relatives showered compliments on my gowns as well. I felt that the PIW team is very professional in their work and will do their best to satisfy their client's needs. Elaine is also very open to feedback and would do her best to translate ideas into an actual design.

Thank you to Elaine and PIW for making me feel special on our big day!
