Halloween Brick Or Treat 2019 at Legoland Malaysia

Dear Legoland Malaysia,

I had attended your annual Halloween event in 2015, 2016 and 2018 respectively. My children - especially my eldest - enjoyed it very much and always looked forward to the next Halloween event. We loved the spooky decorations, the treats, the performances and of course the Duplo commemorative brick.

We recently attended the Brick Or Treat event in Legoland Malaysia, and boy, it was an utter disappointment!

This year's event started from 3:30pm to 6pm (Friday/Saturday) and 3:30pm to 5:30pm (Sunday to Thursday). Previous years it ended at 8pm, so I wondered why they brought it forward. After we entered the park, we we just in time to watch the Halloween performance at the stage near the entrance. Usually the performance was held at the Kingdom section where the castle and main activity area was, I thought perhaps they moved the performances here because of the rainy weather.

After inquiring with the staff, I was in for a big shock : This year's Halloween event would not be held at the castle, but here at the main entrance itself!! 😱😱😱

That explained why there were so many decorations at the entrance. There was the haunted pumpkin patch, the huge jack-o-lantern, and the build-your-own spider/pumpkin section called Giant Spider Web and the giant spooky ghost.

We asked around where was the trick or treat event held. Apparently they had set up a long booth called Knock Knock Alley. Children first received their empty paper bag, and then they proceed to knock on each of the 4 doors which was located in the alley. Behind each door was a monster, who will distribute candy to the children.

It certainly felt very different from the previous years where children can go up to different booths to receive their treats. The choice of treats were also very poor (lack of sponsorship perhaps?). We only received some candy and Haribo jellies. If I had to say something nice about it, the concept itself was interesting and the children did enjoy knocking on the doors and getting spooked!

We proceeded back to the stage area whereby the Costume Contest was about to be held. Though there were not many contestants, there was clearly one winner - the boy who dressed up as Grim Reaper! He won a Lego Hidden Side set worth RM500. Lucky Grim Reaper! What I hoped was some form of token for those who took effort with their costumes and their participation but they all got nothing in return 😔

Speaking of Hidden Side, I am sure this was the best time for Lego to promote its Hidden Side sets which work hand in hand with the Hidden Side app. We managed to try it at the Hidden Side booth, and I think was a very interesting concept. We were also busy taking photos of the ghosts around Miniland in order to receive a gift, but the gifts were also not too enticing (Stabilo pencils, tissue paper, Legoland bookmarks). Of course the lucky person may win a Lego set, but seriously? What were the odds?

Now I understood why the event ended at 6pm, as there was basically nothing else to look forward to except for what was available to us at the entrance. What better way to end this in a sour note was there THERE WAS NO MORE DUPLO COMMEMORATIVE BRICK! 👿👿👿. I looked forward to the Duplo brick after each event, and was so, so dissapointed when I found out they didn't print any this year 😢😢

If this was due to a budget cut, please at least think of the regular visitors and annual pass holders. We looked forward to all your events, but it seemed that we are now being shortchanged tremendously. There was no Star Wars day (I assumed it was due to the opening of SEALIFE Malaysia), but to organise a shabby Halloween event was a different story altogether. I really hope you could retain some of the fun from previous years for the upcoming Christmas event.

Should we even renew our Legoland Annual passes now???
